Generator Protection, Measurement and Control Panel

Generator Protection, Measurement and Control Panel

The panel integrates generator protection devices into a single cabinet. It provides differential protection, rotor/stator earth fault protection, backup protection (overcurrent, negative-sequence, loss-of-excitation, reverse power, etc.), overvoltage, overload, and excitation protection.

Product Description

The Generator Protection, Measurement and Control Panel integrates generator protection devices into a single control cabinet. It is primarily used for the control and protection of high/low voltage generators, generator sets, generator paralleling cabinets, and grid-connecting cabinets. The panel consists of components including generator differential protection device, generator earth fault protection device, generator backup protection device, generator integrated protection and measurement & control device, air circuit breakers, cabinet body, and accessories. It provides comprehensive protection functions such as generator differential protection, rotor earth fault protection, stator earth fault protection, excitation protection, overcurrent, overvoltage, overload, backup protection, and more.

Key Protection Functions

Protection Type Description / Function
Generator Differential Protection Protects the generator against internal faults. When a phase-to-phase short circuit or turn-to-turn short circuit occurs inside the generator, the differential protection will operate.
Generator Backup Protection Protects areas external to the generator. Key functions include three‑stage overcurrent protection, negative‑sequence overcurrent trip, loss‑of‑excitation protection, loss‑of‑excitation trip, stator earth fault zero‑sequence current / zero‑sequence voltage / dual‑frequency, stator earth fault trip, reverse power, under‑frequency, etc.
Rotor Earth Fault Protection Divided into single‑point rotor earth fault (normally an alarm) and two‑point rotor earth fault (requires circuit breaker trip and generator disconnection from the grid).
Stator Earth Fault Protection Provides protection via zero‑sequence current, zero‑sequence voltage, or dual‑frequency methods, with optional trip functionality.
Overcurrent, Overvoltage & Overload Protection Guards against excessive current, voltage, or load conditions that could damage the generator.
Excitation Protection Protects the excitation system to ensure stable operation.

Features

  1. Robust Cabinet & Modular Configuration

    • Cabinet dimensions: 2260 mm (H) × 800 mm (W) × 600 mm (D).

    • Each panel can accommodate up to 3 layers of devices, and each layer can host 3 devices.

    • All protection & control devices are physically and electrically distributed at the primary substation bay layer. Each device operates as an independent system with its own power supply, CPU, and trip/close circuit, performing protection, measurement, and control functions for the corresponding bay. Hardware and software are fully independent and do not rely on the communication network.

  2. High‑Reliability Design

    • Advanced CPU chips with international standards.

    • Enhanced reliability through isolation, hardware/software filtering, watchdog circuits, anti‑interference coding, intelligent diagnostics, interlocking and blocking logic, vibration resistance, and a new structural design that minimises interference.

  3. Advanced Communication & SCADA Integration

    • Devices can communicate directly with a computer via fieldbus or with a communication manager. Collected data is sent to the microcomputer monitoring system via the communication manager, while commands are transmitted back to the corresponding devices.

    • The control equipment layer takes primary equipment in the substation as its object, and deploys distributed, compact, high‑reliability microprocessor‑based protection and monitoring devices. Each device operates independently and can communicate with the substation layer to realise fully integrated substation automation.

  4. Enhanced Protection for Both Generator & Excitation Transformer

    • The protection panel protects not only the generator but also the excitation transformer, significantly reducing the risk of generator burn‑out and ensuring long‑term safe and stable operation.

  5. Multiple Communication & GPS Time‑Synchronisation Ports

    • All ports are terminated for easy connection to the power system’s back‑end computer, enabling remote measurement, remote control, remote signalling, remote adjustment (four‑remote functions) as well as acquisition of active power, reactive power, current, voltage, frequency, power factor, and energy (kWh) data.
